Would you like to discover new places in your locality or around the world? Facebook’s new features on its local directory gives you a visual treat!
“Facebook places” was actually invented in the year 2011 offering search results for places to visit in popular cities. But, now its look has been updated and it seems to be a new version of the Facebook Places directory offering more lively interaction to the users.
This new places directory seems to overtake popular US directories like Yelp, Foursquare in terms of visual improvements. The directory helps us search cities and specific destination with quick visual shots to the local nearby places and allows us to browse a lot of cities segmented for every country that is listed from around the world. The page of city directory compliments users with a wonderful cover image and shows you about “Things to do in city X”. It shows a collection of likes and check-ins that are connected to that particular city.
The City page is further divided into 6 primary fields namely “Restaurants, Hotels, Bars, Cafes, Public Attractions, and Arts & Entertainment”. The design shows section in Tile views of the places with their name of business, address, average rating, business type, opening time, phone number, review, friend’s comments and much more. The tiles have pictures of the reviewer who rated the place and it will be shown on relevancy of your friends. Beneath this, you will be seen less relevant categories like Gyms, Movie Theatres, Schools, Grocery Stores and other Landmarks that are grouped in “More” section. At the end, the page also displays an interactive map showing the cities nearby with the distance that are easily reachable.
However, there are no similarities with Facebook app since both the directories gives different content based on user’s relevancy. As there is no official information yet from Facebook, we may look for more improved features in the coming days.
